Our journey began at the Asola Bhati Sanctuary Eco Tourism Zone, where students embarked on a walk through the sanctuary, learning about the conservation of wildlife and rare species of birds. They had the unique opportunity to differentiate species of leopards by their spots and engage in conservation activities.
One student’s testimonial perfectly captured the sentiment of the group: “Asola Wildlife Sanctuary is a place that taught me the intricacies and relationships between species and their ecosystems. Despite the hot weather, I felt more connected and confident observing nature.” This experience underscored the importance of understanding and preserving our natural world, even under challenging conditions.
After their time at the sanctuary, the students enjoyed a hearty Himalayan cuisine lunch at Yeti. This introduction to different themes through food was crucial as it allowed the students to learn about each other’s cultures and traditions in an engaging and delicious manner. Sharing a meal not only provided nourishment but also served as a platform for deeper connections and conversations, enriching their collective experience.
The day continued with a visit to Sunder Nursery, where students learned about the conservation efforts underway to maintain age-old architectural marvels. This was a new and enlightening experience even for those familiar with Delhi. They enjoyed learning a bit of history about the monuments and exploring the ancient trading routes. To honor Nelson Mandela Day, the leaders conducted a session on education as a tool for success, followed by a reflection activity where students shared the highlights and low points of their day.
The day concluded on a flavorful note with an introduction to Bihari cuisine at Potbelly restaurant, providing yet another cultural and culinary exploration for the students. Stay tuned for more adventures and learnings!
