Regenerative Travel to Tanzania

Travel has been undergoing a transformation. More people are now conscious of where and how to visit places without doing any harm. But this sustainable/eco-tourism model is just the base level. I want to proudly share a Regenerative Travel model where people actively enhance the destinations they visit.

In February 2023 along with close friends Pammy/Jag Kapoor and Val/Inder Dosanjh, Anita and I went on safari – our favourite holiday- to Tanzania. The game viewing in both Northern Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, especially the close interactions with lions, was fabulous. As per our usual practice we set aside time to visit with the local communities to learn a little about their way of life. This time our Guide also took us to the Ololosokowan Primary School, a local day and boarding school.

At the end of touring and learning about the school and its students, one teacher came up to me and whispered “I have a special request “. She then pulled me to one side and said that the girls who were boarders, around 80/90, needed some “women” products.

Our group without hesitation decided to make this happen. We thought that mere regular supply of products, difficult in this remote area, was not enough. We considered funding a local manufacturing operation but that had its own issues. Through a close contact I then got connected to Sia Towo of Femme International in Tanzania. She proposed a mix of education and supply with which we readily agreed. A year later I am happy to share a report on the project executed through 360Plus Foundation. We are now looking to see how we can move to the next phase.

I invite everyone to consider including a good “leave behind” on your next holiday.
