Day 3 began with an insightful visit to Agrasen Ki Baoli, where the students delved into age-old water conservation techniques. They learned about how many ancient water wells were destroyed, a poignant reminder of the revolutions that erased significant historical artefacts. One student reflected, “Today we learned about water and historic conservation, realizing how many of the old water wells and precious historic items were being destroyed during many different revolutions. Unfortunately, this limits the knowledge future generations can learn from our past. So I’m happy to see people making great efforts everyday to preserve these charms for this and other generations to come and hope to contribute to the same.”
The journey continued with a walk through the enchanting streets of Old Delhi, soaking in the charm and heritage of Chandni Chowk. The guided tour included famous landmarks such as Jama Masjid, Lal Qila, Mirza Ghalib Ki Haveli, and the Bird Hospital, offering students valuable lessons in preserving heritage. The tour, conducted via rickshaws, was a novel experience for many and provided a vivid glimpse into the rich culture and history of the area. Following this, the students enjoyed authentic food at one of the oldest restaurants, Karim’s, and explored the bustling spice market, collecting small mementos to take home.
In the afternoon, the students visited Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, gaining deep insights into the Sikh faith and the practice of ‘seva’ or selfless service. One student found the experience particularly enlightening, noting, “I really loved it when the guide told us that there are no priests in Sikhism. He mentioned that where there are priests, there are upper and lower positions, but in Sikhism, we are all equal. There is no discrimination.” The day concluded with reflections on their learning and a sense of anticipation for the adventures ahead!
