Try Shira!!

Today was such an amazing day! My group had learnt about the LGBTQIA+ community in India, seen an elephant, went to a park, and even had pizza for dinner. However, the main highlight of my day was lunch, where I discovered shira. Shira looks like mashed potatoes but is actually really sweet and left a familiar sense in my mouth. That reminded me of the my traditional foods back home.

In my Pueblo tribes we have a dish called blue corn mush, it can be mixed with anything to flavor it but my favorite way is making it sweet with sugar. The only time I eat it though is at my Grandma’s house when all of my family comes together for our tribes annual holiday in August. Each of us always eat a bowl of my Uncle’s praised blue corn mush for breakfast. So when I felt the sweet grainy sensation of the shira, it reminded of the blue corn mush I love so much. That is why it was the peak of my day, and because I love the taste and texture of blue corn mush so much I have found a love for shira as well. I am glad I keep trying new things even if I’m skeptical because I find little things such as this.
